Chinatown ID-BIA Chinese New Year Celebration 2025
This past weekend, I had the joy of celebrating Chinese New Year in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District, ringing in the Year of the Snake with vibrant energy and cultural richness. The event was a beautiful blend of tradition and community, featuring lively performances, delicious food from local vendors, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The district itself, a historic hub of Asian culture in Washington State, was alive with activity—from families gathering to enjoy the festivities to friends playing ping pong in the park. It was a reminder of how this neighborhood serves as a cultural anchor, bringing people together to celebrate heritage and connection.

The event also featured a heartfelt blessing from a Sifu, whose presence in a flowing silk robe added a sense of reverence and tradition to the celebration. His words and gestures felt like a beautiful nod to the spiritual and cultural roots of the occasion.

The morning kicked off with an electrifying kung fu performance by Northwest Kung Fu and Fitness. Their precision, strength, and grace were mesmerizing, showcasing the deep-rooted artistry of Chinese martial arts. It was a powerful reminder of how discipline and tradition come together in such a dynamic way.

Master Cho’s Taekwondo team brought high-energy kicks and impressive forms to the stage, captivating the audience with their skill and teamwork. Their performance was a testament to the global reach of martial arts and the way it bridges cultures.
